Author BioBefore![]() Lisa studied English and Journalism at the University of Iowa. She was active in the Society of Professional Journalists, and she also interned at the UI's acclaimed literary journal The Iowa Review. After college, she wrote features and investigative reports for arts-and-entertainment newspapers in Iowa City and Des Moines. Soon she decided to pursue an editorial career in the educational publishing industry, and for the next decade, she held in-house positions with publishers in Des Moines and Seattle as everything from proofreader to senior editor. NowThese days Lisa works from her home near Seattle as a writer, editor, and editorial consultant. She has freelanced for publishers nationwide since 1993, specializing in writing children's books, short stories, curriculum materials, magazine articles, and book reviews. Lisa is an active member of SCBWI, PNWA, and Authors Guild. She has been using the pen name L. L. Owens on her works for children since 1998.
Lisa's extensive editorial credits include books and other materials for all age levels and in many genres. She is active in the Editorial Freelancers Association and has served the organization as Chicagoland Chapter Coordinator (2002–2004) and national Education Chair (2004–2008).
